This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit wisdom-trails.com, how we use it, and what rights you have in relation to it. By using this website, you agree to the practices described below.

Information you give us directly:

  • Newsletter sign-up: your first name and email address, collected when you subscribe via any form on the site or the exit-intent popup.
  • Contact form submissions: your first name, last name, email address, subject, and message content, submitted via the Contact page.
  • Purchases: when you buy an ebook, your payment and delivery is handled by Payhip. We receive your email address from Payhip so we can send you a branded welcome email. We do not collect or store payment card details.

Information collected automatically:

  • Analytics data: we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site. This includes pages visited, time on site, device type, and general geographic region. This data is aggregated and does not identify you personally.
  • Cookies: this website uses cookies set by WordPress, Google Analytics, and any third-party services listed in this policy. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
  • Server logs: our hosting provider (Namecheap) automatically records standard server log data, including your IP address, browser type, and the pages you request. This is used for security and technical maintenance only.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To send you the newsletter and new article notifications you signed up for.
  • To deliver the free excerpt PDF if you requested it.
  • To send you a welcome email after a purchase.
  • To respond to messages you send via the Contact form.

We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling.

  • Consent: you have given us clear consent to contact you by submitting a newsletter or excerpt opt-in form. You can withdraw consent at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email we send.
  • Legitimate interests: we use analytics and server logs to keep the site running securely and to understand how it is being used, in ways that do not override your rights and interests.
  • Contract: when you make a purchase, we process your email to fulfil your order and provide customer support.

5. Third Parties We Share Data With

We share your data only where necessary to operate this website and its services:

  • MailPoet (email platform): your name and email address are stored and used to manage your newsletter subscription and send you emails. MailPoet processes data under its own privacy policy.
  • Payhip (payment and digital delivery): if you make a purchase, Payhip handles payment processing and PDF delivery under their own privacy policy. We receive your email from Payhip to send you a welcome message.
  • Google Analytics 4 (analytics): anonymised usage data is shared with Google. You can opt out via the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
  • OptinMonster (exit-intent popup): collects your name and email when you request the free excerpt, and passes this to MailPoet.
  • Namecheap / LiteSpeed (hosting): your IP address and request data are processed by our hosting provider as part of standard server operation.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for marketing purposes.

6. International Transfers

Wisdom Trails is based in Kenya. The services we use (including Google Analytics, MailPoet, and Payhip) may process your data in the United States or other countries. Where this occurs, those providers are responsible for ensuring appropriate safeguards are in place under their own data protection commitments.

7. How Long We Keep Your Data

  • Newsletter subscribers: we keep your data for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we remove your details from active sending lists within a reasonable period. Backup copies may be retained for a short additional period.
  • Contact form messages: retained in our email inbox for as long as they are relevant to your inquiry, typically up to 2 years.
  • Purchase data: retained as required for accounting and legal compliance, typically 7 years under Kenyan tax law.
  • Analytics data: Google Analytics retains data as configured in our GA4 account, typically 14 months for user-level data.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you are located, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: ask us to correct inaccurate information.
  • Deletion: request that we delete your personal data, subject to any legal obligations we have to retain it.
  • Withdrawal of consent: unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time using the link in any email. This does not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before you withdrew consent.
  • Objection: object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Portability: request your data in a portable format, where applicable.
